Journal 10

Since I want to be a Kindergarten teacher, I probably won't use data collection (surveys) with my students. However, I will probably have the parents of my students fill out a teacher evaluation survey every quarter so that I can see how I am doing. This will give parents a chance to let me know how satisfied they are with my instruction and give me feedback as to how I can improve myself as a teacher. I think this will be especially helpful during my first few years as a teacher. After having the surveys completed, I could put the data into a recording tool such as Excel. This would allow me to organize the responses in a way that would be easy to read and understand. I could then interpret the data and improve myself as a teacher.

For EME 2040, we were required to write blogs on specific topics each week. Since all students had the blog prompt each week, it was interesting to read other students' blogs and see their perspective. For instance, I enjoyed reading how each of us had used Microsoft programs in the past. Prior to this class, I always assumed that everyone used these programs in the same way. I had no clue as to all of the amazing functions that each of these programs is capable of. Another topic that I found very interesting while viewing my classmates' blogs was the topic of adaptive technology. This was something very new to me so it was cool to learn about the various adaptive technologies that we had each seen being used in the past. Lastly, I really enjoyed viewing screenshots of other students' assignments throughout the course. I especially enjoyed this when we completed Assignment 2: Newsletter Design. I liked seeing how everyone completed their newsletter in their own unique way.

After visiting FSU's Tech Sandbox and completing observation hours for EDF 1005, I have decided that the technology-related skill that I would like to learn next is SmartBoard. I decided this because at the Tech Sandbox, I learned about the awesome features of SmartBoards and think that they would be extremely beneficial in a Kindergarten classroom. SmartBoards provide an innovative way for students to learn which is just what Kindergarten students need. I think that these boards will help to capture my students' attentions so that they are focused on what we are learning in class. This is what I have witnessed this at FSUS, a local elementary school where I have been completing observation hours for another class. I have seen SmartBoards in every single classroom I have observed and know that it is a crucial for teachers to know how to use them. I will achieve this goal of learning to use SmartBoards by visiting the Tech Sandbox once a week so that a staff member can teach me how to use this device. I can also practice using SmartBoards without the guidance of a staff member so that I can truly master these skills on my own.
