Resource Critique Activity

The resource I chose is "Creating Grammar Gurus". This resource is geared at addressing standard LAFS.K.W.2.6 which describes that with the help of adults, kindergarten students should explore digital tools in order to develop their writing. "Creating Grammar Gurus" is a lesson plan that is designed to allow children to develop their grammar skills, specifically through the use of nouns, verbs, and adjectives. During class, students would use this resource to create a grammar chart along with their class and later; they would publish their own sentence. Personally, I believe that this idea is a bit much for children of such a young age. Perhaps, it could be successfully implemented through the help of parents, as teachers could easily assign homework through this resource. However, it is not realistic to expect that this would work well in the classroom setting, as teachers would have to help each student navigate this tool.

With my existing knowledge, I know that I still have a long way to go before I am fully prepared to teach with each of the ELA technology standards. However, I feel pretty confident with my existing knowledge on Standard L.5 "Vocabulary: Use Context Clues". I think I would be able to implement this standard into my teaching, as it is about determining the meaning of word based on context clues. During my senior year, I tutored a fifth grader in order to prepare him for the Reading FSA, the standardized test that elementary school students, middle school students, and some high school students must take. When he had a question asking him for the meaning of a certain word in a reading passage, I would always remind him to use the context clues of the word. This also relates to the technological aspect of this standard as the student I was tutoring was preparing to take the online version Reading FSA. I always encouraged him to use the highlight tool to mark the context...

As a student, I have used Microsoft Word to write countless papers and extensive notes. I have found the editing and formatting tools extremely useful and beneficial. This is the computer software that I have used most throughout my educational experience. I have found Microsoft Word as an extremely valuable tool. I've seen my teachers use the program to write tests and quizzes in a neat manner. Additionally, my teachers have used it to create attractive, appealing handouts and visual aids to use as supplements during their lectures. This has helped students maintain an interest in what is going on. It is evident that Microsoft Word has made the lives of my teachers easier.      In an educational environment, I have witnessed my peers adhering to copyright regulations. Since copyright protects intellectual or creative work by requiring that people give credit to the creators of the work, I have seen most of my teachers and peers give citations when ...

All teachers share a common goal. This goal being to ensure that students are prepared for their place in society. This is the main factor that influences teachers to use technology in their classrooms. Not only does incorporating technology in the classroom allow teachers to accomplish their instructional tasks, but also prepares students for contemporary life. Another factor that influences teachers to use technology in their classrooms is their want to meet identified standards for 21 st century learning. Both teacher and student literacy in technological tools is critical. A variety of environmental factors, psychological factors, and personal filters may influence students in the classroom. The use of technology in the classroom allows for students to be engaged in school, with these factors impacting them less. The ISTE standards layout basic guidelines for students, teachers, and administrators to work together in order to improve our educational system. They provide rea...
